Top 10 Favorite Books

10. Forever… by Judy Blume

I read this along time ago, but I just remember it being the first romance book that I read that was honest about teens and sex and I loved that! I didn’t really care for the characters, but I did like that this was the first romance book that I had read.

80675

9. Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino

What I liked most about this was how mature the writing seemed for a YA/NA romance. It wasn’t full of the typical troupes you see in most novels, but it was still romantic and I was rooting for the characters to have a happy ending.

8. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I have no shame. This was the very first book that got me into my obsession with books, after a long hiatus of not reading for pleasure after elementary school. I remember devouring this series in about a month. I’m still obsessed. What can I say? I’ll always make room for Twilight on my favorites list.

7. Teach Me by R.A. Nelson

Wonder what happens behind closed doors of a teacher/student relationship. This one is for you. I think I’m going to reread this one in 2018.

930428

6. Zac and Mia by AJ Betts

For those who enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars, take a chance on this one. For me, this was way better and more honest than TFiOS. Don’t get me wrong, I loved TFiOS, but this novel has all the raw emotions of what being a cancer patient is really like (and I should know, I went through it).

5. The Cellar by Natasha Preston

This novel is about a girl who is kidnapped and put in a cellar along with a handful of other women who have been brainwashed by their kidnapper to basically love him because their lives depend on it. I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of this novel.

51xDsMX0KTL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

4. Stolen by Lucy Christopher

If you end up enjoying Cellar, you’ll probably like Stolen. It’s along the same lines except our character is taken to the dessert where she tries to find a way to escape, but where can you run to in the dessert?

3. How to Love by Katie Cotugno

The next two novels were hard for me to rate because I love them both so much. It took me awhile to pick up How to Love, but once I did, I wished I had read it sooner. The synopsis had turned me away from it originally, I loved it and couldn’t put it down.

2. 99 Days by Katie Cotugno

I just might be one of the only YA readers around who enjoyed the love triangle in 99 Days and I’m not ashamed of that. I can’t wait for the sequel!

22864818

1. November 9 by Colleen Hoover

I didn’t think any book would ever pass up a Katie Cotugno book on my favorites, let alone a Colleen Hoover book. I’ve read a few of her novels, and nothing was ever favorite worthy. That was, until I picked up November 9, on November 9th. It was book fate, haha. This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions and I was constantly rooting for the couple, until the moment Ben broke my heart, but I still loved him as a fictional boyfriend. This is a must read!

Winter Wonderland Book Tag

Hey guys, I’m doing an easy peasy book tag for this week. Hope you guys have a wonderful holiday weekend! I have three days off work and I can’t wait to spend time with my family! I found this book tag via YouTube from PeruseProject, if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged!

tumblr_mq0ofjLSMx1r8mnamo1_500.gif

  1. What book is so happy and so sweet that it just warms your heart? The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. I just think her books are so cute and sincere. summer-series
  2. What is your favorite book with a white cover? Forever by Judy Bloom, this is the cover I have for it. 37743
  3. You’re sitting in a nice comfy chair, sipping on your favorite winter beverage, what monster (large) book are you reading? Probably my husbands Omnibus version of Goblin Wars because he’s been hounding me to read it. When will I ever finish it?! It’s about three inches thick. Goblin_War_eCover_embiggen.jpg
  4. It started snowing and you decided to have a snowball fight, what fictional character do you want to have this snowball fight with? Embarrassing as this is, Emmett Cullen from Twilight because I think he’s super playful and would totally do this. I just hope he’s on my team! Twilightbook.jpg
  5. Sadly, your fire is going out, what last few chapters would you throw in to keep the fire going to stay warm? This whole novella, I just haven’t enjoyed Hoover’s novels. This novella did not make her look like a good writer. 23587984
  6. What book is close to your heart that you would love to give as a gift?  I still haven’t read this book, but I’ve seen the movie and I just think it’s a classic story that will never age. It would make a good gift to anyone who is young at heart, especially younger girls. This was one of my favorite movies growing up. Hoping to read it in 2017.9781250059291

Fall Time, Cozy Time Book Tag

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a huge fan of fall time! I pretty much start decoration for fall on the first day of September. I also got married on Halloween, so it’s a special time of the year for me. So look forward to a ton of Fall/Halloween themed posts over the next two months!

As always, I was not tagged and will not tag. Feel free to do this tag on your own! So I guess I’m actually tagging anyone reading this!

Fall Time, Cozy Time Book Tag

– Crunching Leaves: The world is full of color – choose a book that had reds/oranges/yellows on the cover.

forever

– Cozy Sweater – It’s finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing: what book gives you the warm fuzzies?

516WcmsApcL._SX332_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

– Fall Storm: The wind is howling & the rain is pounding – choose your favorite book OR genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

– Cool Crisp Air: What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

9101526-_sy540_

Even though I didn’t really like this series, I would love to trade places with the main character. Would be really cool to see an alien planet.

– Hot Apple Cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest,
hottest thing?

untitled

I will always stand behind this book… always.

– Coat, Scarves, and Mittens – The weather has turned cold & it’s time to cover up – What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

10421340-_uy200_

Oh god, just look at it for a second…. how embarrassing. I don’t think I actually finished this one.

– Pumpkin Spice: What’s your favorite Fall time comforts food/foods?

Hmm, I’m not a coffee or tea drinker. I do enjoy a good chilli or soup though.

World Traveler: Book Tag

I just got back from my surprise Germany trip on Sunday, so I thought that I would do a fun travel themed book tag this week. I searched and surprisingly couldn’t find many book tags with a travel theme so I figured I would do my own.

(If you would like to see my pictures from Germany in a post, let me know!)

For this tag, I’ll list a handful of countries and then you can pick out a book for each one that reminds you of that country whether it’s the setting, heritage, atmosphere, whatever. I hope you enjoy! If you do this tag, let me know!

1.) United States of America:

Pretty much any summer time contemporary romance reminds me of the US (where I’m from!) I’ll go with Dear John by Nicholas Sparks for this, it’s a lovely story of a girl who loves a boy who is fighting for his country.

dear-john-cover-image

2.) Germany:

This one is a toughy because I don’t recall reading anything set in Germany. So I’ll go non-fiction for this one and choose the Diary of Anne Frank. If you haven’t read this, you should!

519HKX9M69L.jpg

3.) United Kingdom:

Harry Potter of course!

harry-potter-1

4.) Ireland:

Why I Let My Hair Grow Out is set in Ireland, when Morgan’s boyfriend dumps her, her parents decide a change of scenery would be best. They send her to Ireland for a bike ride across the country where she finally can do some growing up. I read this book way back, it’s very short, but so cute.

42476566b133bb87468a07179293b815

5.) Korea:

To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han, sticks out to me for this one because it’s one of the only books where I remember culture sticking out to me. Our main character talks about how her mother was Asian but her father is not, yet he still manages to keep the girls Asian heritage prominent in their lives even though their mother is deceased.

15749186

6.) Australia:

Zac and Mia takes place in an Australian hospital where our two characters are handling their cancer diagnoses. This is by far one of my favorite books, if you enjoyed (or didn’t enjoy) TFIOS by John Green, you’ll enjoy this one. I think it’s way better!

20256715

7.) Canada:

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake, I honestly wasn’t sure what to use for this so I just went to Google and typed in ‘YA books based in Canada’ and it gave me a link to Goodreads list of Canada books. Was this actually based in Canada? I can’t remember! But the book is super spooky and a good read!

9378297

8.) France:

This one is easy, of course I’ll go with Anna and the French Kiss for obvious reasons. I don’t remember much of this plot, but I did enjoy the book.

6936382.jpg

9.) Spain:

I’ve stumped myself, do you know of any good YA books set in Spain?

untitled

10.) Italy:

I’ll go with New Moon because a portion of this novel happens in Italy. When I think of Italy, I immediately imagine Bella running through the festival there to prevent Edward from exposing the vampires in an attempt of vampire suicide.

Bookshelf (Library) Tour 2016

I didn’t realize until I started this post that my bookshelves are actually one huge hot mess. So this is a bit embarrassing but maybe we can just pretend that this is a before post and I’m going to do an after sometime this year. Surprisingly, my shelves are kind of organized. This is me and my husbands books combined but this isn’t even all of them. There are three large moving boxes filled with books in our garage that we need to clean. Yes, clean. My husbands aunt had a house fire and some of the books she was giving to him were in that fire. They’re covered in soot on the outside, but the inside is fine. We’re going to be needing a new shelf soon, so we’ll be making some room soon.

11

Above is the overview of our ‘library’. The very top shelves hold misc items that just don’t fit anywhere in our house (Stu’s Star Wars legos, the model VW bug me and my dad made when I was younger, some of Stu’s notebooks from college and art supplies. I need to figure out what to do about these items. Whoops.

untitled

12

The three above pictures are obviously most of my YOUNG ADULT books along with various knickknacks. My favorite of those shelves has to be my Sarah Dessen/Jenny Han/Other YA Contemporary books!

34

The next bookshelf is our random shelf. It has all of Stu’s miniatures that he hand painted along with some SyFy books and historical non-fiction (those are some of the books from the fire). Only one of these books is actually mine, You by Caroline Kepnes.

567

The above bookshelves are again mostly Stu’s SyFy books with some memoirs, biographies, self-help and horror mixed in. The bottom shelf is actually just some of our text books from college that we couldn’t bring ourselves to get rid of.

89

Now we have my second favorite shelf above. It’s full of so much knowledge! Again, mostly Stu’s books, he’s the brains in this marriage. I like this book shelf because it’s where most of our books come together. We have our collection of bibles and books we consider classics. My favorite set of books has to be the pretty red and gold group of classics.

10

The final bookshelf in our library has even more bibles and various old books. The gigantic ones are actually just German medical dictionaries I believe, but they just look cool!

12

Ah, now to my favorites shelf. It’s ever changing. It contains some of my favorite books and some of my TBR books. I keep this one in our bedroom. The top shelf holds one of our wedding pictures and my jewelry, the next one just holds miscellaneous items like tissues, a bible and more jewelry. The middle shelf is favorites ending at Stolen and then my TBR starting at Enshadowed. The other books between those two are actually Stu’s TBR. The bottom shelf is where I keep my favorite comics/graphic novels, a copy of Stu’s series, my Twilight collection, another TBR book, a copy of The Odyssey (the first gift Stu got me) and some photo albums.

My goal for the rest of the year is to get our books better organized. How do you organize your books? By genre? Color? Author? Size?

The Zombie Apocalypse Book Tag

Book tag Tuesday, at it again! I haven’t been tagged but I love doing tag posts because some of them are creative and I have to think real hard on my answers. This weeks tag focuses on one of my favorite things: zombies!
zombie-proof-house-1.jpg

Original: https://www.youtube.com/user/nathanhale96?feature=watch

What to do: I have 5 books picked at random. Each book will answer two questions. The first name I see when I flip through the book without looking will be in that team.
The five books that I picked:

zombie tag

Okay, so I totally forgot that I wanted to ‘cheat’ and use one of my Walking Dead comics, but hey. You wanted random. I pretty much pulled one book off of every shelf on my bookshelf at random. Three out of five would give me some decent zombie team members, I’d say.

Your Zombie Team

  1. The first person to die: Augustus. Well isn’t that something? Though Gus was actually my favorite character from this book, I’m sad to see him go. gus
  2. The person you trip to get away from the zombies: Hazel. Pretty sure I wouldn’t even need to trip her because of her oxygen tank would hold her back and eventually she’d run out of oxygen… I’m a horrible person.  hazel
  3. The first person to turn into a zombie: Dimitri. No! He was our chance at survival! Dimitri-Belikov-image-dimitri-belikov-36366236-1024-536.png
  4. The person that trips YOU to get away from the zombies: Lissa. I can’t really see that. I feel like I should be more afraid of her than the zombies. vampire-academy-christian-lissa-pictures
  5. The idiot of the team: Will. Yeah, that makes sense. Haha.0ddb42aac3b1c0fc7c49bbf1b2638cbe
  6. The “brains” of the team: Carmel. No. No. No. Not as the ‘brains’.6926163.gif
  7. The team’s medic: Eli. I can’t remember much about the characters from Along for the Ride, but the main thing about Eli is he’s an insomniac. I guess that could come in handy as a medic, since he can stay up and take care of people for longer amounts of time.
  8. The weapons expert: Maggie. I don’t even remember who Maggie is! But I’m pretty sure we’re screwed if she’s the weapon expert.
  9. The brawler: Bill. At least he can probably fight better than the others. Billcompton
  10. The Team Captain: Jason. He should have been the team idiot. Haha.  tumblr_m04zh8XiFt1r8on03.gif
I’d say our chance of survival is very slim, especially if we lose Dimitri.

25 Bookish Facts About Me

Yet another book review Thursday has gone by and I haven’t finished my current read. I’m sorry! Things are going to be crazy the next few weeks! I’m almost halfway through The Dream Thieves, and I’m at the part where Blue and Orla are on the boat with the boys. OH.MY.GOD. Loving this scene! So instead of a book review, I’ll be doing the 25 Bookish Facts About Me. I promise to read all weekend!

25 Bookish Facts About Me

  1. I’m married to a published author. How cute, right? We actually met online through our love for writing and reading.
  2. I majored in English with an emphasis in creative writing, this almost didn’t happen because my school required two semesters in a foreign language to acquire the English degree and I did not want to do that. spanish
  3. I’ve never read Harry Potter, though, I would love to own the books so I can read them with my future children.
  4. I prefer paperback books over any other form. I’m still thinking about getting an e-reader for my birthday but I’m not 100% sold on it. I love paperbacks because they take up less room on my shelves.
  5. I only write in non-fiction books but I’ll occasionally underline a favorite quote from a book.
  6. I’m not a fan of reading the ‘booktube famous’ books. I’m not big on Rainbow Rowell or any of those authors booktubers gush about.
  7. My cats interrupt my reading more than anyone else.  mad bro
  8. I can’t sleep in a room without books. Literally every room in my house has some sort of book in it!
  9. I get most of my reading done during the winter or weekends. I always take a book with me when I go on vacation during the summer but I never actually read.
  10. I love writing on my novels but I hate editing! edit
  11. Sometimes I just stand and stare at all of my books, for me, it’s therapeutic. My books are a collection. I like knowing I’ve read most of them.
  12. I used to hate bookmarks, I always used the receipt but recently, I’ve grown to love collecting bookmarks. I think it started when I did the Reddit Bookmark Exchange. Here’s the super cool bookmarks that started my obsession.
  13. For one year (maybe longer), I only read vampire themed books. Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Academy, Vampire Diaries, even erotic vampire books (awkward). I couldn’t get enough, but finally I jumped into YA Contemporary when I started reading Sarah Dessen. vampires
  14. I currently have three novel ideas that I’m working on, but as of right now, I’m concentrating on one of them. Almost 30k words in.
  15. As much as I love walking around Barnes and Noble, I prefer to shop online because it’s easier to find things. I have a membership with them so it’s nice that I still get free shipping.
  16. I’ve always wanted to be a librarian, but apparently you have to have a masters degree for that. I guess book blogging is the next best thing.
  17. I think I get my love for reading (and writing) from my granny. Sadly, she can hardly see to read or write anymore.
  18. My favorite part of high school was going to the local elementary school and helping the younger kids with their reading.
  19. In my opinion, horror books are more scary than horror movies.
  20. I can never remember character names or the whole plot, but I do know if I liked the book or not.reintroduction-50-first-dates
  21. I hate when I see people with huge TBR piles. How do you afford all those books? Do you actually plan on reading them? Why?!
  22. I don’t like un-hauling books. I did it once and I regret it.
  23. I can’t really read in my favorite spot anymore because my cats like to cuddle a bit too much.
  24. I’ve tried reading YA Fantasy, and I just can’t get into it. Same goes for the dystopian genre. I love when I can read a simple book about a girl who falls in love with a boy. Love. Love. Love. how-to-deal
  25. And finally, bookish fact number 25. Did you really read all of them?! Let’s go with my least favorite place to read: outside. I love the idea of reading outside, but not the actual act of it. There’s too many distractions, I live in the midwest so the weather never cooperates, bugs in the summer time are awful and my neighbors are always way too loud!

Hope you guys enjoyed getting to know me a little bit!

The Ultimate Book Tag

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Yeah, I wish I didn’t because reading would keep me awake but sadly, I get really car sick.

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

Probably Maggie Steifvaters. She was the first author I recall reading that had multiple POV’s and also wrote from a male perspective. I wish I could write in a male perspective as well as she does!

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

Twilight. 1.) I haven’t read HP. 2.) Prefer tons of love over action. 3.) I love quick, easy reads. Twilight was just that.

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is it in (besides books…)?

I did when I was in college. Now, in the adult world, I just carry a big purse with my book in it, a notebook to write novel ideas or blog notes in. Along with my wallet and other necessities.

5. Do you smell your books?

Not recently released books, but I do go down into my ‘library’ and smell the old books.

 6. Books with or without little illustrations?

Without, I tried reading an illustrated YA book and HATED it.

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing? (Ex. I read Twilight before I read HP and thought the writing was amazing but read HP and now think Twilight is a little bit of a joke.)

Twilight as a joke?

gallery-1450389097-how-rude-what-ever-happened-to-the-cast-of-full-house-20-years-later-and-still-a-family-gif-237688

Why are all these questions ragging on Twilight?! Haha. But seriously, I loved reading Twilight. I didn’t even get passed chapter one for Harry Potter (probably because I was pretty young when it come out). I guess if we’re talking series, I loved the Hunger Games while reading but afterwards, I thought it was just like all the other dystopian YA.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

Not really, I had a huge collection of Babysitter’s Club books, but that’s about it. No funny stories!

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

Probably my small catechism if we’re counting that. It’s about ten pages long I believe.

solacatechismcover

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

We have a ton of big books in our collection, but if we’re talking my YA books, that would be The Host by Stephanie Meyer (which I hated by the way).

The_Host

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I do, but doesn’t everyone now? At the Raven King book signing, Maggie asked how many people want to become writers and half the room raised their hands. I’d love to at least get one book published. It doesn’t even have to sell! I just want to know that I have something out there and one person has enjoyed it.

12. When did you get into reading?

I’ve always enjoyed collecting books, but I didn’t get into reading until I was a senior in high school. Yay Twilight!

13. What is your favorite classic book?

Not big on classics. But I loved reading Fahrenheit 451, and I’m a big fan of Macbeth.

14. In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?

Of course, those were also usually my favorite teachers too. Creative writing especially.

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?

Accept it, always room in my collection.

beauty-the-beast-beauty-and-the-beast-1705808-960-540

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

I don’t really read in those sub genre’s but I guess the Matched Trilogy could be compared to Hunger Games, with the love triangle and government always watching.

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?

When I did ‘booktube’ for about a year, I always had issues saying the words ‘um’, ‘like’, and ‘and’ all the time. Here’s my awkward booktube channel.

18. What is your favorite word?

Nepotism. But I hate the idea of it.

nepotism-1

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

Nerd… it’s the only title I would happily accept out of the three.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Vampires. I’ve never read any fairy books, but I’ve loved almost all the vampire books I’ve read. I just can’t imagine a full book on fairies being interesting. The only fairy I enjoy is Tink from Peter Pan.

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Shapeshifter

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Werewolves, though both would terrify me if I were to encounter one.

23. Zombies or Vampires?

Zombies, duh.

 24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Oh, that’s a tough one! Probably love triangle.

25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

Full on romance.

The Raven Cycle Book Tag

As many of you know, Maggie Stiefvater recently released the final book in this series (I’m only on book two, shhh) and readers have been raving about this series for awhile now. And why wouldn’t they? The characters are fantastic and so is the plot! So this week, my blog is going to be jam-packed with Raven Boys posts. Look forward to my post on meeting Maggie this Thursday! You can find the original video of this tag here.

1. In the books, Maura is the relaxed mom that is Blue’s friend more than an actual mother. Who is your favorite mom character?

Hmm, it’s hard to say considering that most books don’t touch on parents at all. If I had to choose someone other than Maura, it would be Rosalie in Breaking Dawn. Yes, I know she wasn’t the actual mom of Renesmee but she did make sure she and Bella were kept safe during the pregnancy and after.

2. Adam wanted to go to Aglionby so he could one day escape where he came from. Have you ever dreamt of living somewhere else? Where?

Not so much a place, but I’m dying to live in a tiny house. Preferably off the grid, overlooking mountains. If we’re talking about a book location, Colby from the Sarah Dessen books. I could totally have a tiny house in Colby.

3. In the second book we meet the Gray Man. He is a hit man who loves poetry. Name a book that you thought was going to be one thing but turned out to be something else.

Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover. First off, I thought this was going to be a full novel, didn’t realize that it was a novella. Second, holy crap, the amount of verbal abuse in a *supposed to be* New Adult romance. I couldn’t believe how the ‘couple’ in this just kept tearing each other down and calling one another names. 23587984.jpg

4. Gansey has searched most of his life for a buried king who is promised to grant one wish. What is one wish you would ask Glendower?

To pay off my school debt/ get me a well paying job in my field. Either of those would be fantastic.

5. In this series you get to see Greenmantle as a fleshed out character but also as a villain. Name your favorite villain.

Anna from Anna Dressed in Blood, though we find that she’s not who she appears to be. Holy crap, did she scare the crap out of me!

6. Blue’s got her Raven Boys. Who makes up your bookish team?

From books? Four (Divergent), Emmett (Twilight), Adam (If I Stay), I don’t know who would be my fourth! Maybe I’ll pick my Raven boy thus far? Gansey ❤

7. Ronan is a bad ass with a sensitive side. What book have you read that was action packed but had beautiful emotional scenes as well?

I’ll go with If I Stay for this one, yes it’s a movie about a girl who gets in a car accident, but it’s her constantly running around the hospital trying to figure out how to get back into her body, etc. Not many books can make me cry, but that one sure does. I just watched the movie again, and I cried the whole way through.

8. Noah has a heart of gold. Who has touched your heart recently?

Well, that’s just a bit too sappy for me to answer…

9. Calla is a woman who speaks her mind and puts her foot down when necessary. Who is your favorite strong female character?

Probably Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy series. She’s such a badass that doesn’t take anyone’s crap!

10. Chainsaw is an awesome Raven boy pet. If you could have one “exotic” pet…what would it be? What would you name it?

A savannah cat! It’s semi-exotic. Ha.
